What Are the Risks of Abortion?
It depends on what type of abortion procedure. A medical abortion comes with risks, including:
- Infection
- Heavy and prolonged bleeding
- Digestive system discomfort
- Incomplete abortion, which may require surgical treatment
- An ongoing pregnancy (if the abortion medications don’t work)
Surgical abortion comes with risks including:
- Infection
- Uterine perforation
- Damage to the cervix
- Scar tissue on the uterine wall
Why Do I Need An Ultrasound?
If you’re considering abortion, you’ll need to know specific details about your pregnancy before making any decision. To get this information, an ultrasound is needed. Confirm three important three details:
- How far along you are
- Viability of your pregnancy (if your pregnancy has a heartbeat and is progressing)
- The location of your pregnancy (whether it’s located within your uterus)
