Choosing Adoption

Adoption could be best for your situation if parenting is not an option for you right now. Maybe your situation isn’t stable or wouldn’t be the best environment for a child. Whatever you decide, we can help you explore the adoption options that are available to you.

It’s important to ask yourself questions like:

  • What is important to me in how my child is raised?
  • Am I ready to be the kind of parent I want for my child?
  • What would it take for me to be ready?

It is a decision to choose parents for your child who will both love and provide for your child. It is not a selfish decision but one that puts the needs of your child first. It is possible to make a plan that includes continued involvement in your child’s life.

Types of Adoption

There is more than one type of adoption plan to choose from. Choose the plan that best aligns with your lifestyle. The following are available adoption plans you can choose from:

  • Open adoption: With this plan, the woman can choose the child’s adoptive family and form a relationship with them. Communication can occur through phone calls, letters, or regular visits. It’s important to note that open adoption agreements are not legally enforceable in the state of Texas.
  • Semi-open adoption: The woman has contact with the adoptive family, but all communication is carried out via a third party, like an adoption agency or attorney.
  • Closed adoption: The most private plan, a closed adoption ensures that all identifying records are sealed. The woman remains anonymous, with no contact between her and the adoptive family.

Is Adoption A Good Choice?

Choosing adoption can give you the peace of knowing your child is loved and cared for by the couple you choose. You may have a fear that your children will grow up resenting you for choosing adoption, but most children adjust very well.
